Minnesota Veterinary Technician Certification Renewal Requirements to Maintain Certification:
Before you renew:
1. Review Continuing Education Guidelines and MN Vet Tech Renewal Requirements. 2. Assess CE certificate(s) to determine medical vs non-medical and interactive vs non-interactive. 3. Please add your name and date on ALL CE certificates. (Reports from CE Broker are not allowed) 4. Submit an itemized list of CE courses for state and national conferences (if CE certificate states medical and non-medical). 5. If applicable, fill out Non-Preapproved (In-Hospital) CE form. *Maximum of 3 non-preapproved CE credits allowed per MVMA guidelines for recertification.
2025 Certification Renewal Information: Please read this information carefully as there are updates:
- Certification Renewal submissions for 2025 will open January 1, 2025 and close June 30, 2025.
- Window of attended CE must be between July 1, 2023 and June 30, 2025 for this renewal period (unless you renewed late for 2023).
- This will be a 1-year renewal that will expire June 30, 2026.
- The current statute written in the licensure bill states that title protection for Veterinary Technicians will be effective July 1, 2026. Only veterinary technicians who are licensed by the Board of Veterinary Medicine (BVM) can call themselves Licensed Veterinary Technicians (LVTs). Your certification credential will thus cease on June 30, 2026. For further licensure information, please visit our licensure website.
- Certification renewal fees will be $45 if renewal is prior to April 30 and $55 if renewal is between May 1 and June 30.
- 10 CE credits will be required as normal for 2025 as well as the maximum allowance of 5 non-interactive and 3 non-medical CE credits.
- The 10 credits required to renew, show that you have been continuing your education over the past two years.
- The CE credits obtained from July 1, 2023 to June 30, 2025 fulfill the expected CE for 2025 renewal.
- CVT cards will be available for purchase for $5; otherwise you can obtain your CVT card via your profile.
- Expedite your CVT renewal for $100. This ensures we process your certification renewal and you receive it in 5–7 business days via priority mail (normal processing times are 8–12 weeks; submissions after 5/1/25 can be 16+ weeks.
Two Options to Renew:
1.Online Option:
- 2025 Renewal Form
- $45 (prior to April 30), $55 (between May 1 and June 30)
- Please allow a minimum of 8–12 weeks for processing. Submissions after 5/1/25 can take 16+ weeks for review.
- Complete the online 2025 CE Report Form and attach your CE Certificates to the submission form or mail copies of CE Certificates to MVMA office. Please update your profile information!
- CE credits for renewal will be accepted after this date: 7/1/2023
2.Mail Option:
- 2025 Mail Renewal Form
- $60* (prior to April 30), $70* (between May 1 and June 30). *Includes $15 processing fee.
- Mail 2025 Certification Renewal Form and copies of CE certificates to MVMA office.
- DO NOT SEND ORIGINALS
- Please list courses attended on the form. You must be detailed and complete the form in its entirety. Incomplete forms will not be processed.
- CE credits for renewal will be accepted after this date: 7/1/2023
**The credentialing committee will review individual submissions received and reserve the right to ask for additional documentation and/or deny any CE courses/credits. You will not receive new certification materials by mail until your renewal has been reviewed and accepted by the committee. We will not notify you of your acceptance via email.
**Please review the Continuing Education Guidelines carefully. It is the responsibility of each technician to submit the required credits for renewal **
Please note: The recertification process is NOT part of MAVT's (Minnesota Association of Veterinary Technicians) member fees.
